Requirements

To enroll in the Butte Literacy Program you must be at least 16 yeas old. Students do need a photo ID to be admitted to the HISET test site at Montana Tech.

In Silver Bow County, about 3,500 adults do not have a high school diploma. Without that piece of paper, their opportunities are limited, for that diploma is the key to entering training programs, college, or the military. We are working to improve this situation. - 11 months is the average length of time in the program.

The purpose of the program is to provide trained tutors to carry out a free, confidential, one-to-one, tutoring program for individuals over the age of 16 built on flexible scheduling, diagnostic and individualized teaching, and instructional materials that meet each student’s individual needs whether that means improvement in literacy and/or passing exams.

Community

The Butte Literacy Program is made up of community members who help area adults achieve their dream of earning a high school diploma and opening doors to greater opportunity through career/tech programs, college, or the military.

Our Tutors

We provide trained tutors to carry out one-to-one, academic tutoring for individuals over the age of 16 built on flexible scheduling, diagnostic and individualized teaching, and instructional materials that meet each student’s learning needs.

Now

Right now, 99% of our students are working to earn high school equivalency diplomas so they can enter career, technical, college programs, or the military so they can improve their families’ opportunities.

News

 A Memorial plaque has been placed in our Butte Literacy Program office to honor our beloved Tenney Hammond. Tenney volunteered and then became the Program Coordinator. She passed away in September 2024.

Thank you for your generous donations! Tenney’s adult children, Josh and Jen, also generously donated to the Butte Literacy Program to support our program!!
